Located at 750 Kearny St., the hotel is managed by Seattle-based Dow Hotel Co. LLC on behalf of Justice Investors. Prior to a recently completed $40-million renovation, the property was known as the Holiday Inn Select Downtown Hotel & Spa.
At Oakland Marriott City Center, Everton also was general manager of the 110,000-sf Oakland Convention Center that is connected to the hotel. Prior to that, Everton was director of operations at the 1,010-room Renaissance Parc 55 Hotel and controller of the 329-room Four Seasons Clift Hotel, both in San Francisco.
The 26-story Hilton San Francisco Financial District features city and bay views, and a rooftop swimming pool that first gained acclaim as the setting for the opening scene in the Clint Eastwood movie "Dirty Harry." Dow has managed the hotel since July 2004, when it was still the Holiday Inn Select Downtown Hotel & Spa San Francisco. From 1998 to 2004, the hotel was leased to publicly traded FelCor Lodging Trust Inc.
Although Dow Hotel typically likes to have an equity stake in the hotels it manages, Dow Hotel president Murray L. Dow II told GlobeSt.com in 2004 that Dow Hotel did not take an equity position in this property and isn't providing any of the funds for the renovation as part of the deal.
Instead, Dow said his hotel company will receive a fee based on a percentage of gross revenue, as well as performance incentives. "It isn't the perfect business model, but we like the asset and think it has a lot of potential," he said. "It is our first major downtown hotel, and with the major renovation planned it's an opportunity to show what we can do."
In addition to guestroom and lobby renovations, the renovation work included a makeover of the Chinese Cultural Center on the hotel's third floor, including the addition of a 5,300-sf ballroom for use by the Center and the hotel. All told, the hotel will have 18,000 sf of meeting space.
"Historically, the hotel has not had adequate meeting space for its size; this renovation will address that issue," said Dow in 2004.
