Green App Goes In for $19M Expansion

EAST NORRITON, PA-Mercy execs apply for LEED gold certification on an $8.2-million, 6,000-sf ER and 14,000 sf of other specialty space.

EAST NORRITON, PA-Mercy Suburban Hospital has applied for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold certification from the US Green Building Council for its $19.4-million capital improvement project. The project includes an $8.2-million, 6,000-sf addition to the emergency department and another 14,000 sf of specialty space.

The emergency department component includes an interventional radiology suite, waiting rooms, lab enhancements, two new operating rooms and several patient and family waiting rooms. Future phases include renovation of endoscopy, recovery and anesthesia areas of surgical services, a new pharmacy, CT scan room and space to accommodate from 25 to 30 additional beds. A Mercy spokeswoman tells GlobeSt.com the first phase will open Oct. 28. All other project components are under construction.
