MIT Plans $750M Campus Expansion

CAMBRIDGE, MA-Following plans by other area colleges and universities to expand, the MIT project will add three academic buildings and an apartment complex.

CAMBRIDGE, MA-The Massachusetts Institute of Technology plans to add three academic buildings and apartment complex to its Cambridge campus in a $750-million building boom that will add about one million sf of space to its holdings. The buildings will also house a cancer research center, a management school, architecture and planning school and an expanded media lab.

The $230-million, 360,000-sf cancer research facility will be constructed on a parking lot in Kendall Square next to the school’s existing biology building, and will be the largest of the school’s new facilities. The $185-million Sloan School of Management will be constructed on Memorial Drive, next to Sloan’s current headquarters. The school’s new $120-million, 163,000-sf Media Lab will expand the current facilities in Kendall Square while the $104-million, 265,000-sf apartment complex will house graduate students on Albany Street.
