Jessica Schumaker, with the Boston Redevelopment Authority, tells GlobeSt.com that developers John B. Hynes III and Vornado Realty Trust are expected to file plans with the city today to build a 495-foot, 1.2-million-sf tower that would contain 500,000 sf of office space. It would also feature 177,500 sf of retail, 140 condos and a 207-room boutique hotel on the Washington and Summer streets site.

The property, which was designated a historic landmark by the city's Landmark Commission in May, will be substantially preserved although two of the buildings, both constructed in the 1950s will be demolished in July, Schumaker says. Construction on the tower, pending permitting approval, should begin in January, 2008, she adds.

New York-based Vornado recently acquired the landmark property for about $100 million from Federated Department Stores Inc. and has partnered with Hynes to develop the site. Neither Vornado nor Hynes returned calls by GlobeSt.com's deadline.
