BOSTON-The new owners of Downtown Crossing’s historic Filene’s property plan to build a $620-million, 38-story tower on the site, turning the four-building complex into a mix of high-end retailers, offices and upscale condominiums.

Jessica Schumaker, with the Boston Redevelopment Authority, tells GlobeSt.com that developers John B. Hynes III and Vornado Realty Trust are expected to file plans with the city today to build a 495-foot, 1.2-million-sf tower that would contain 500,000 sf of office space. It would also feature 177,500 sf of retail, 140 condos and a 207-room boutique hotel on the Washington and Summer streets site.
