YORK, PA-Bon-Ton Stores Inc. is remodeling and expanding its 142,000-sf Park City Center store in Lancaster and the 124,000-sf Carson Pirie Scott store at Chicago Ridge Mall, which it acquired in its $1.1-billion buyout of 142 Carson's units this March. The cost of these projects is undisclosed. According to a Sept. 7 SEC filing, the locally based department store owner plans $91 million in capital expenditures this year.
The Park City Center Bon-Ton unit will be expanded by 37,000 sf to an aggregate of 179,000 sf to allow for an expanded merchandise selection. The expansion will begin in April 2007 and is scheduled for completion in October 2007. Remodeling of the existing space will begin in January 2008 and is expected to be completed the following October.
In addition, Bon-Ton will open a 32,000-sf furniture gallery at a remote location in Parkview Plaza, which is adjacent to Park City Center. The unit will open in late fall this year, with a grand opening set for January 2007.
Construction of a 30,000-sf addition to the Chicago Ridge Mall store is expected to reach completion this mid-November. It will take that unit to an aggregate of 154,000 sf. Remodeling of the existing unit will begin in January 2007 and is expected to be completed the following August.
"Our Park City and Chicago Ridge stores have always been premier locations," Bud Bergren, president and CEO, says in a statement. "The additional space and remodel will allow us to increase the productivity of the stores and enhance the shopping experience for our customers."
