CHESTNUT HILL, MA-Macy's plans to open one of its most exclusive department stores in the country in March when it unveils its new retail store in upscale Chestnut Hill.

The new Chestnut Hill Macy's will occupy space currently leased to a Bloomingdales women's clothing store, which will move next month to 189,200 sf of retail space formerly occupied by a Filene's store in the Mall at Chestnut Hill. The mall is also home to a Bloomingdale's men's and home store.

The store openings and relocation are part of a $17-billion takeover by Federated of several regional chains throughout the country, including Filene's, many of which have been reopened under the firm's Macy's banner.

A Federated Department Stores spokesman confirms for GlobeSt.com that Macy's, which is owned by Federated, plans to stock the store with high-end merchandise not normally found in less affluent communities but declined to say exactly which brands would be offered.

"It will be upscale fashion goods that are above the level of a typical Macy's, as others stores in that trading area have," he says.
