The fund's investor base is composed of several long-term partners that have previously invested in Warburg Pincus' funds. GE Asset Management is one such company.
In a company statement, Managing Director and Partner Michael Profenuis says "WPRE I combines our real estate experience and private equity investing expertise with a strong, dedicated capital base. This enables us to take advantage of attractive real estate investment opportunities and the team is actively pursuing numerous transactions in the global market."
In the past the company has invested in a variety of markets, including retail, senior housing, lodging and land development among others. A source close to the firm says this new fund will not change Warburg Pincus' strategy of investing in a variety of property types. The source also says that more than 50% of the fund will be invested in Europe and Asia, with the remaining balance invested in the United States.
