In a statement Ross said, "I am delighted to take on the challenge of chairing the Real Estate Board of New York." Ross is a current REBNY member serving on the executive committee and the board of governors.

"Stephen Ross will be invaluable in helping the board as it continues its service to the industry and New York City," Zuccotti said in the release. "He has an extraordinary background and his distinguished career and the experience he brings will serve the board and REBNY members well."

Zuccotti, chairman of Brookfield Financial Properties, was named REBNY chairman in June 2003, taking office the following January. He replaced Burton Resnick who had been the board's chairman two separate times; once for three years beginning in 1989 and then again after chairman Bernard Mendik's death in 2001.

REBNY, which currently has 11,000 members, revealed plans last month to open its residential listing service to the public. As reported by GlobeSt.com, the board plans to allow non-real estate professionals access to the listing service in the first quarter 2007.
