The sealed-bid auction has already attracted dozens of potential bidders according to H. Frank Stanley at Cushman & Wakefield. "This is a fast-paced process and we will be opening sealed bids on Dec. 11," he says.
The site stretches over 15 miles of oceanfront and 40 miles of combined lagoon shoreline. It also offers amenities such as a barrier reef for diving excursions, fly fishing and adventure tourism opportunities.
Mayan Plantation is offering two tracts of land in the auction, a 920-acre piece along the ocean that already has development plans for a resort/residential/commercial scheme. The second tract, directly to the north and west, comprises a 15,960 acres with potential for marina, residential, resort and golf course development and will be offered in absolute sale with the first tract.
