BOSTON-Two restaurant groups have submitted bids to develop a harborside restaurant in the Long Wharf pavilion on Boston's waterfront. Legal Sea Foods Inc., which operates six seafood restaurants in Boston and a total of 31 along the East Coast, and Eat Drink Laugh Restaurant Group, owner of five Boston eateries, have each bid on a 10-year lease for the 2,900-sf pavilion that is being offered by the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
The BHA first requested proposals for the site at the end of August, as reported by GlobeSt.com.
In a filing with the BRA, Legal Sea Foods proposes a concept similar to its traditional restaurants, but with an abbreviated menu that includes lighter fare and sandwiches. The restaurant group operates locations in the Prudential Center, Copley Place and Park Square among others.
Eat Drink Laugh Restaurant Group, which also operates West on Centre, Peking Tom's, the 21st Amendment and the Paramount, said it plans a new casual restaurant concept called Doc's which will offer lobster rolls, fish and sandwiches. The firm said it would also like to revamp the rest of the wharf to add artist exhibits, theater performances, music, sculptures, chess tables and an annual regatta.
Cambridge architects HMFH Architects Inc., which reviewed the pavilion for the BRA, said the structure contains enough room for an 86-seat restaurant, 90 seasonal outdoor seats and a 15-seat bar waiting area.
BRA officials will review both proposals before making a decision on the project, an official with the city said.
