Woods Picks Dubai for First Golf Course

DUBAI-The world's number one golfer picks Dubai to develop his first golf course and community.

DUBAI-Tiger Woods has selected Dubai to develop his first golf course in conjunction with Tatweer, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding. The new course, to be called Al Ruwaya, will be located inside an exclusive golf community comprising a professionally staffed golf academy, a 60,000-sf clubhouse, an 80-suite boutique hotel for VIP guests, 300 luxury villas, 20 mansions and a community retail center. Al Ruwaya will be a championship-quality golf course including elevation changes, landscaping and water features. The golf community, to be called “Tiger Woods-Dubai” will total 25.3 million sf and will be located on the Emirates Road.

A statement by Woods said he had chosen Dubai because he is “excited about the challenge of transforming a desert terrain into a world-class golf course.” H E Mohammed Al Gergawi, government minister and chairman of Dubai Holding, said: “This initiative reinforces the great development pace that Dubai has achieved within diverse domains to become one of the most recognized cities in the world.”
