OKLAHOMA CITY-Locally based McClendon Venture Co. LLC is investing $35 million in a private proton cancer treatment center that will be developed by ProCure Treatment Centers Inc. of Bloomington, IN. The facility, whose Oklahoma City site has not yet been selected, is tentatively scheduled to open in 2009.

Aubrey McClendon, who founded the venture capital company and has been CEO of locally based Chesapeake Energy Corp. for 16 years, made the announcement in a prepared statement but could not be reached by GlobeSt.com's publication for other comment. He says the investment in the ProCure project "represents an exciting opportunity to build a dynamic company that has the opportunity to transform the way many cancers are treated." He says the proton therapy will be made "affordable and accessible to everyone who would benefit."

McClendon associates Shannon T. Self and John B. Frick are also investing in the venture. Locally based Radiation Medicine Associates and Radiation Oncology Associates will operate the facility.
