POITIERS, FRANCE-Tire manufacturer Michelin has hired industrial developer ProLogis to build a 344,000-sf distribution center here in southwestern France. Michelin plans to use the new facility to serve certain markets in France and neighboring countries.

As part of the deal, ProLogis has agreed to acquire from Michelin a 79-acre former manufacturing plant in Poitiers for an undisclosed price. In addition to the planned distribution center that will be built on the property, the acreage can support an additional 1.16 million sf in three buildings.

"ProLogis' extensive customer base will enhance its ability to attract jobs to Poitiers--a key factor in our decision to select them as developer," according to a prepared statement from Michelin.

The site is located near France's A10 motorway and N10 national road. Completion of the first distribution center at the new park is expected in the second half of 2007.
