As vice chairman, Roth will represent major corporate tenants in meeting space needs and provide strategic planning, deal restructuring and acquisition services. "His primary thrust will be focusing on corporate services," says Barry Gosin, Newmark CEO. Additionally, Roth will be part of the strategic direction committee, which "establishes the vision and direction of the firm and formulates the tactical execution steps."

"The appointment requires a seasoned veteran who is an acknowledged leader in the commercial real estate industry and a valued advisor--and we have found just that person in Merrill Roth," Gosin says in a statement. "Merrill is a consummate professional and is well-equipped to help lead the firm into its next stage of growth, with the foremost objective of continuing to deliver the highest levels of service to our clients."

Gosin tells GlobeSt.com that Roth's appointment was the culmination of years of talking and persuading the seasoned broker to join the firm.

Prior to taking this position, Roth was a vice chairman in Grubb & Ellis' New York office. He worked there eight years. Grubb had no comment about Roth's move except to say the firm wishes him luck.

Before that he spent 20 years at Edward S. Gordon Co. He was a partner of the firm as well as a member of the executive committee. At both companies he earned the distinction of being one of the top brokers. In his 29-year career, Roth has represented a variety of corporate tenants including AIG, Hitachi America Ltd., iVillage Inc., and Zurich Reinsurance Inc.
