Mary Kerr, vice president of investor relations, tells GlobeSt.com the Iowa space is leased, and following termination of the lease, the locally based department store company is consolidating overall distribution functions to four remaining centers in Whitehall, PA; Fairborn, OH; Rockford, IL and Green Bay, WI.

Meanwhile, the Parisian and Elder-Beerman units at Fairfield Commons Mall in Beavercreek, PA will carry the Elder-Beerman nameplate after renovation and reconfiguration, which will begin this April and is expected to reach completion in September. The 130,000-sf current Parisian location will be devoted to women's ready to wear, cosmetics, shoes, fashion accessories and intimate apparel, while the 150,000-sf existing Elder-Beerman unit will be renovated to include a 65,000-sf furniture gallery along with home, men's and children's categories.

A 15,000-sf home store will be added to the 144,000-sf Parisian unit at Circle Square in Indianapolis, and the unit will operate under the Carson Pirie Scott nameplate. Construction will begin this March and is expected to be complete in July.

"The additional space and remodels will allow us to increase the productivity of the stores and enhance the shopping experience for our customers in these markets," says Bud Bergren, president and CEO, in a statement. He adds that both locations will offer "a greater selection of merchandise."

The company also announced that the Parisian stores in the Detroit market will continue to carry the Parisian nameplate. They include units in Laurel Park Place in Livonia, Meadowbrook Village in Rochester Hills, and a new unit at Partridge Creek in Clinton Twp., which is scheduled to open in October.

The cost of the company's ongoing remodeling, reconfiguring and expansion is undisclosed. According to a 2006 SEC filing, the company planned $91 million in 2006 capital expenditures. It more than doubled its number of units in 2006 with the $1.1-billion March buyout of 142 Carson's units. It now operates 283 stores, including eight furniture galleries, in 23 states under the Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's, Younkers and Parisian nameplates.
