BOSTON-The Boston Harbor Hotel is getting a $12 million makeover. Plans call for the renovation of 230 guest rooms, the Intrigue Café, Magellan Gallery and the hotel’s function area, known as the Wharf Room.

“It’s the most extensive renovation we’ve had in 20 years,” says a hotel spokeswoman.

Shawmutt Design and Construction will handle the renovation work, which includes the creation of a new canopy entrance to the Wharf Room and arched room interiors to reflect the hotel’s famed waterfront design. Guest rooms will be redesigned by Jinnie Kim Design of Brookline to create “a more residential” rather than hotel room feel.
