$300-million expansion

A spokesman for Dana-Farber tells GlobeSt.com that the new location, at 27 Drydock Ave., will house some of the hospital's administrative offices and research and imaging facilities. "Like many hospitals, we're facing a shortage of space," he says "The Harbor Campus is one effort to help us with our space needs."

Dana-Farber will occupy two floors in the seven-story building under a 10-year lease with options to renew. The 300,000-sf building, which was built by the government in the 1930s to process military inductees, is fully occupied at lease rates of $10 per sf. The property, which is owned by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, is managed by North Star Management, which holds a long-term lease on the building.

The spokesman says the Drydock location will house employees displaced from two buildings which will be torn down to make room for the expansion project planned. That expansion will give the hospital 400,000 sf of research laboratories, outpatient treatment facilities and ground-floor retail space and increase the hospital's space by a third when completed in 2011.
