Current plans call for the construction of a 1.5-million-sf structure that will contain both office and retail space along with a one-acre park on the irregularly-shaped parcel at 115 Winthrop Square. The firm also owns an adjacent building at 133 Federal St.
"The Trans National team has made a significant financial commitment to the city, and they have brought a project proposal to us that would serve as a model for sustainable growth and design--a concept that the City of Boston is deeply committed to," says Menino in a statement.
Designed by architect Renzo Piano, plans for the environmentally friendly building call for a mix of retail and office uses, including a year-round public market that will sell locally grown organic items.
The tentative designation requires Trans National to submit a financing plan that includes an acquisition fee based on an appraisal of the site to the BRA within the next 90 days. The project will then be reviewed to determine whether it is financially feasible before the BRA officially designates Trans National as the developer.
