As senior vice president with JLL, Hopwood will oversee the firm's suburban portfolio. Although the firm's suburban portfolio already consists of more than four million sf of office space, Hopwood believes it is an area of future growth for Jones Lang LaSalle. "We had a banner year downtown in terms of additional buildings we picked up and are managing and leasing and I think, with the addition of a couple of suburban leasing guys and myself, the goal will be obviously to grow the business out in the suburbs," he tells GlobeSt.com.

Hopwood will also be in charge of nearly 800,000 sf at six different properties and will chair the association for landowners of the Cantera development in Warrenville. He will "manage the day to day" happenings of the association, Hopwood says. Cantera is a 650-acre, master-planned mixed-use development on a site of a former quarry in Warrenville, which contains the headquarters for BP America Inc., International Truck & Engine Inc. and Exelon Nuclear. The development also includes a 30-screen theater, restaurants, retail, three hotels and other amenities along with two residential complexes. The latest development at Cantera is the construction of a 40,000-sf building by Duke and a few other office condominium developments that Jones Lang LaSalle is not involved with, Hopwood says.

As vice president at Duke, Hopwood had been in charge of a 50-building portfolio with 11 million sf. He had previously served as general manager at CB Richard Ellis and at Premisys Real Estate Services.
