Work Under Way on 430,000-SF Outlet Project

CYPRESS, TX-Chelsea Property Group starts site work on a 75-acre tract for the 120-store project. Completion is penciled for spring 2008.

CYPRESS, TX-Roseland, NJ-based Chelsea Property Group has begun construction on the 430,000-sf Houston Premium Outlets. The 75-acre center represents the company’s fourth project in the state.

Houston Premium Outlets will have 120 stores when it opens in second quarter 2008. A spokeswoman for Chelsea Property Group tells GlobeSt.com that leasing activity is brisk for the project, going up near Texas 290 between Mason Road and Fairfield Drive. The project’s construction budget isn’t available.

“We’ve been very well-received by the merchant community and outlet sector,” the spokeswoman says. She wouldn’t disclose any tenants’ names nor speculate if it will be fully leased by the opening. Chelsea’s other three Texas outlet centers are Allen Premium Outlets, north of Dallas, Round Rock Premium Outlets in the Austin area and Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets just north of the US-Mexican border.
