Olive Garden Continues To Grow Units

ORLANDO-Olive Garden is leading Darden Restaurants' growth push this year, but the company's other chains will pick up steam in the near future.

ORLANDO-Olive Garden will dominate Darden Restaurants’ growth in 2007 and 2008, but other chains should start expanding by fiscal 2009, executives said at the restaurant chain’s third-quarter conference call.

This year Darden expects to open approximately 35 to 40 net new restaurants, 35 of them Olive Garden units. Approximately 40 net new Olive Gardens are planned for 2008.

“Olive Garden is focused on accelerating growth. We’ve developed three new Tuscan prototypes and identified sites,” said Drew Madsen, president and COO.
