"We're identifying market needs and trends and developing our portfolio of office, retail and industrial properties and responding accordingly," says David Gardner, president and COO of the locally based Larken. "Each of our new developments will bring a commercial component that fulfills specific market voids, whether it's medical and professional office space or a retail destination."

The four New Jersey properties being launched are offices, the largest of which is Raritan Commons, a 67,000-sf class A medical and professional building located across from the 176-bed Hunterdon County Medical Center on Route 31 in Flemington. Also on the docket is Readington Commons, a 55,800-sf complex of eight one-story buildings adjacent to the Merck Pharmaceuticals world headquarters on Route 22 in Readington Township. The latter will also include a stand-alone daycare building.

Larken's agenda also includes Greenwich Commons, a 43,600-sf, two-story class A office building on Route 22 in Warren County's Greenwich Township. Finally, Larken is set to start work on Courtyard at Amwell, a 14,000-sf, two-building medical and professional complex here. The location is about nine miles north of Downtown Princeton, according to Gardner.

The two Pennsylvania roll-outs, both shopping centers, include the redevelopment of Allentown Shopping Plaza in Allentown. Larken recently closed on the acquisition of the property, and has gotten its approvals for a five-building, 72,000-sf makeover of the center. The project also has pad site approval for a drive-thru bank of pharmacy.

Finally, the company is set to start work, including the leasing program, for Maidencreek Towne Center, a 35,000-sf center in Berks County, PA. The center is being developed in conjunction with, and as the commercial center for the Village at Maidencreek, a new residential community.
