LOS ANGELES-The Federal Bureau of Investigation has scrapped plans to build a new L.A. field office on the site of the Westwood Federal Building on Wilshire Boulevard. Citing community concerns, the FBI revealed late Thursday that the General Services Administration, which handles its real estate needs, has concurred with the agency’s decision and will seek alternative sites.

“FBI and GSA will meet in the near future to jointly determine a new area of consideration,” the agency said in a statement.

The original plan called for replacing the 17-story office building at 11000 Wilshire Blvd. with two towers totaling approximately one million sf. Earlier this month, the GSA said the Wilshire site was the best of 35 sites the agency had studied. The decision to abandon the redevelopment plan follows nearby residents’ concerns about traffic and terrorism, concerns that were taken to heart by public officials.
