BELLEFONTE, PA-Equipped with $3.5 million in incentives assembled by the Governor's Action Team, locally based Cleveland Brothers breaks ground for a new 85,000-sf Caterpillar parts and distribution center that will anchor the Centre County Industrial Park at Rockview. This is one component of Cleveland Brothers' $30-million consolidation and expansion plan under way across five counties, initiated by its acquisition of Murrysville-based Beckwith Machinery.
In November 2005, Gov. Ed Rendell announced plans to transfer the 135-acre Rockview State Correctional facility to the Centre County Chamber of Business and Industry for development into an industrial park. The Cleveland Brothers' facility will anchor the park.
The other components of Cleveland Brothers' expansion are a 40,000-sf sales and service facility that was just completed in Lancaster County; an expansion of its 400-sf lab to 900 sf in the Chambers Hill area of Harrisburg; a 9,000-sf expansion of its existing 28,000-sf facility in Turbotville in Northumberland County; and renovation and expansion of existing operations in Murrysville in Westmoreland County. The latter will become the company's new headquarters. A new 50,000-sf sales and service facility is also under construction in New Stanton near Murrysville.
The governor's office worked with Centre County Industrial Development Corp. to assemble the incentive package. It includes a loan of up to $2 million through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, a loan of up to $650,000 through the county's industrial development program, up to $250,000 in opportunity grants, up to $200,000 in customized job training funds, and up to $419,000 in job-creation tax credits. Rendell says Cleveland Brothers will create an aggregate of 419 new jobs.
The Caterpillar sales and service company is also eligible to apply for a $10-million low-interest loan through the Citizens Job Bank program. Cleveland Brothers has 26 operations in Pennsylvania. A call to Cleveland Brothers was not returned by deadline.
