Nitze-Stagen's plans call for a 40-story, 670,000-sf office tower that is tentatively slated for completion in 2010. The tower will include a small amount of street-level retail and 7,500 sf of expansion space for the adjacent, longstanding Rainier Club. No plans have been hammered out for the re-use of the sanctuary.

Seattle First United Methodist Church is reportedly in the process of acquiring a new location immediately north of the Downtown core in Belltown to continue its mission. The exact location has not been disclosed but a property on Third Avenue between Wall and Bell streets was mentioned last year. The church expects to make the move in 2008. The National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation worked with the church to preserve its existing building.

The sale is scheduled to close later this year. The negotiated purchase price was not disclosed. Nitze-Stagen president Kevin Daniels did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Not too long ago, the church wanted to demolish the sanctuary. The city designated the sanctuary a landmark in 1985. First United took the city to court and 11 year later won a state Supreme Court decision that declared all religious buildings exempt from landmark status. The church then had plans drawn up for a new sanctuary building where the current sanctuary now sits.

Nitze-Stagen's past projects locally include Starbucks Center and Union Station. The company's current projects include the planned redevelopment of the north lot of Qwest Field, which the company is in the process of acquiring from King County, and Stadium Lofts, a mixed-use redevelopment of an former warehouse adjacent to Qwest Field.
