More than 250 registrants are already signed up for this year's TIC conference, a significant increase from last year as interest in tenant-in-common companies and their deals continues to burgeon in light of transactions like the NNN Realty acquisition of Grubb & Ellis. One of the highlights of this year's event will be a keynote address by Tony Thompson, the founder and chairman of NNN Realty Advisors. In addition to discussing Triple Net's groundbreaking move to go public, Thompson will address the evolution of the TIC business, where the market is now in terms of maturity and what can be expected in the years ahead.

Says Rich Kelley, director for the RealShare conference series, "Given that Tony is one of the founding fathers of the TIC industry, and considering what the company has done recently, this should be one of the most interesting sessions of the day."

Kelley will also be directly involved in another session that is sure to be of interest. It's called "Catching Up With Louis Rogers," a presentation in which Kelley will sit down with Rogers, who formerly was an exec at Triple Net, and discuss Rogers' current activities as an independent consultant with his new firm, 1031 Safe Harbor LLC. The session also will explore what Rogers has to say about other developments in the TIC industry and his take on where it is headed.

Another highlight of the day, Kelley points out, will be a presentation by Gary Beynon of Omni Brokerage, one of the most active broker dealers in the TIC market. Beynon will be releasing the results of new research by Omni regarding how many TIC deals are being done, for what kinds of prices, how much money is being raised and how the properties are performing. "These are statistics and research that has never been revealed before," Kelley points out. "This is a new study and this is the first time it will be revealed."

Other highlights of the RealShare conference will include panels throughout the day that will address a host of topics surrounding the questions of whether the TIC industry has reached saturation and how TIC deals are faring as an investment class. This year will also feature a new type of session, called "Fact or Fiction," in which Marc Paul, president of SCI Real Estate Investments and Kevin Shields, president of Griffin Capital, will answer a variety of questions in a format that Kelley says is sure to be both informative and entertaining.

The RealShare TIC conference will open with registration and breakfast from 7 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. The program will kick off with opening remarks by Kelley, followed by Thompson's presentation at 8:20 a.m. Other sessions during the morning will include a town hall meeting on supply and demand in today's TIC world and a panel on new entrants in the TIC marketplace. Right before lunch, attendees will have their choice of two concurrent sessions, one on the growth of alternative asset classes in TIC offerings and the other on the challenges of re-sales and transfers.

The first session after lunch will be "Fact or Fiction," followed by two concurrent sessions, one a panel discussion on due diligence featuring broker dealers and registered representatives and the other a session on diversifying into other securitized products. After "Catching up with Louis Rogers," the question of deal performance will be the subject of a panel discussion, followed by another panel discussion on the potential Implications of an SEC no-action letter.

The event will conclude with a cocktail hour and networking session designed to provide "more opportunity to learn and network," Kelley observes. "For anyone out there who is involved in the TIC industry or thinking about it, this is the place to be, with all of the top players in one place at the same time for one day," Kelley says. "There will be a lot of great information, and the networking can't be beat."

The RealShare TIC conference and other RealShare events are produced by Real Estate Media, publishers of GlobeSt.com, Real Estate Forum and Real Estate Southern California.
