The first phase of the renewal is occurring on the casino level, where major renovations and additions are already underway, including the nightclub LAX Las Vegas where the RA nightclub used to be and several new restaurants and lounges. The penultimate phase-one addition is a venue for a new Cirque du Soleil production that will open this time next year and feature illusionist Criss Angel.

Two new venues are already open. Located off the lobby, the new 24-hour face of the Luxor is Aurora, a 157-seat lounge with an Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, theme created by Japanese design firm Super Potato. Up and running this month is the Restore Pool Lounge, which offers guests 21 years of age an upscale pool experience.

Opening later this year will be a trio of new venues to be owned and operated by Pure Management, which owns and operates several venues in hotel-casinos on the Strip including PURE Nightclub, the Pussycat Dolls Lounge and Venus Pool Club at Caesars Palace. The Luxor venues -- LAX nightclub, Company American Bistro and Noir Bar -- will encompass 45,000 sf and be connected to one another.

Celebrities Christina Aguilera and DJ AM are working with Pure on the 26,000-sf nightclub while celebrities Wilmer Valderrama, Nick Lachey and Nicky Hilton are reportedly partners in the associated eatery, Company, a 10,000-sf American bistro where patrons will be able to customize their meal from top to bottom. Noir Bar is described as a chic speakeasy built out in leather and crystal that will cater to private parties. The nightclub and bar are slated to open on Labor Day, the restaurant in October.

Also opening at the Luxor this fall will be CatHouse, "a modern restaurant and lounge interpretation of a 19th century French bordello, with voyeuristic visual elements and provocatively attired staff"; Flight, a new 40-seat bar opening adjacent to LAX; and Liquidity, another Super Potato-designed venue that will feature a bar and three separate lounge areas draped in water.

Opening in 2008 will be the Cirque du Soleil show, Luxor Steak House and a remodeled casino floor that will play off the water theme of Liquidity. Starting in 2008 will be changes to the property's atrium and galleria areas, including several retail changes. The third phase, set to begin in 2009, will focus on room remodeling.
