Cabela's Readies Start of First ME Store

SCARBOROUGH, ME-Outdoors retailer Cabela’s is breaking ground here this week on its first store in the state of Maine. The 130,000-sf unit is anchoring the mixed-use Gateway at Scarborough, a 438,000-sf development to open next spring.

Sidney, NB-based Cabela’s operates 19 stores around the country and plans to open seven new units this year, in Gonzales, LA; Hoffman Estates, IL; East Hartford, CT; Hammond, IN; Reno, NV; Post Falls, ID; and Lacey, WA. Executives have said that the US could support a Cabela’s in every state.

New Canaan, CT-based Feldco Development Corp. is building Gateway at Scarborough. Besides the Cabela’s, it will include 68,600-sf of other retail, three 6,000-sf restaurant pads, a 200-room hotel and 80,000 sf of offices. The entire project will be made up of 11 buildings.
