With the old industrial structures out of the way, demolition for the project is 75% done. Much of the work the past few months has been testing soil samples for accordance with brownfield remediation, a spokesman tells GlobeSt.com.
The billion-dollar, mixed-use project is a public/private partnership between the township of Harrison and Bedminster-based Advance Realty Development.
"Receiving site plan approval and finishing demolition of every building on the site moves us further ahead," says Kevin Tartaglione, senior vice president and COO of Advance. "When completed, Harrison MetroCentre will breathe new life, as well as new jobs, ratables, and infrastructure improvements, into this previously obsolete site."
The first phase of the MetroCentre will have 450,000 sf of retail space, a 350-room hotel, and 1,800 residential units. Later phases will include up to three million sf of office space, as well as the centerpiece 25,000-seat Red Bull Park, future home of the New York Red Bulls professional soccer team. Turner Construction is the contractor for the project, as GlobeSt.com previously reported.
