Crosland Plans 20-Acre Retail Site

RICHMOND, VA-Charlotte, NC-based Crosland is expanding its foothold in Richmond’s retail market with an ambitious 110,000-sf project called Rutland Commons. The development, which stretches across 20-acres and includes three outparcels, already has one anchor: a 74,000-sf Kroger supermarket, which will offer both grocery and pharmacy services. Site work for the anchor is already under way, with a fall 2008 opening date scheduled.

Crosland plans to announce additional tenants over the coming months. “Our goal is to provide area residents with a distinct mix of national and regional retailers and restaurants, neighborhood shops and services,” says James Downs, vice president of Crosland’s retail division. Located at the intersection of Chamberlayne Roadand Atlee Road in northeast Richmond, the center fronts the entrance to the 200-acre HH Hunt master-planned community, with 575 residences. Crosland will also be developing the outparcels, which are situated on seven acres adjacent to Rutland Commons.
