The arena will be located along Centre and Fifth avenues, across from the existing Mellon Arena. As GlobeSt.com previously reported, the estimated construction cost is $290 million, and the arena is expected to be completed in time for the 2009-2010 hockey season.

SEA is the property owner, which is leasing it to the Penguins under a deal reached among team owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle, Gov. Ed Rendell, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, and Don Onorato, Allegheny County chief executive, this March. In addition to hosting Penguins games, the arena will also be used for concerts and other events.

Early planning called for a structure of approximately 730,000 sf with an estimated capacity of more than 18,000 seats, including 69 suites, along with a 500-space parking structure. An Oxford spokesman tells GlobeSt.com, "no precise size, configuration or overall capacity has yet been finalized."
