Couple Buys Land to Build New Water Park

SANDWICH, IL-A 60,000-sf indoor water park will be constructed at the development which also has a hotel, convention center and retail.

SANDWICH, IL-A nearly 10-acre parcel of land off Route 34 here has been acquired to construct a 60,000-sf indoor water park at the Sandwich Commons. The 53-acre center is being joined by a new hotel, with a convention center and retail.

David and Meredith Avery, from Sandwich, acquired the land for $4 million. The seller was WB Holdings LLC, based here. Heather Devermann, with Inland Real Estate Sales Inc., brokered the sale.

The water park, called Waves of Fun Inc., will be a five-story building with a 50-foot water slide, surf and wave generator and a lazy river. Waves of Fun will also have a play area, arcade, concession stand and Tiki bar, Devermann says. The park is being developed by the Avery’s along with Brad and Julie Inman, who area also from the area. The park is being modeled after water parks in the Wisconsin Dells, Devermann says. “There is nothing else like it in our area,” she says. Construction is expected to begin shortly on the water park and plan to open the park next spring.
