The Combat Services Support Center, Logistics University is part of BRAC's plan to consolidate and realign military operations at Fort Lee. The Logistics University will not only be home to the Army Logistics Management College, but also logistics leadership education for non-commissioned officers, warrant officers and logistics officers.

Balfour Beatty has received BRAC-related work in a number of areas, Smithgall. "This was our first contract at Fort Lee." The firm is poised to receive additional work as it was included in part of a small pool of pre approved general contractors to which the Army Corps of Engineers will award the rest of the $200-million-plus design work at Fort Lee.

Pool A consists of MA Mortenson Co., Jordan/Versar and Purcell Construction, he says. Pool B consists of Whiting-Turner Contracting Co., Hensel Phelps Construction Co. and Balfour Beatty. The Logistics University project is envisioned to be a four-story, 348,000-sf education building that will include a student center, classrooms, multi-purpose auditorium, library, support space, office space and student break areas; and a separate three-story, 48,000-sf research facility. Both buildings will have raised access flooring, blast resistant materials and will be eligible for LEED Silver certification.

Balfour Beatty Construction's design-build team includes: HOK, architectural design consultants; Hankins and Anderson, Inc., engineering design consultants; Truland Systems Corp., electrical subcontractor; Colonial Webb Contractors, mechanical subcontractor; Froehling and Robertson, Inc., geotechnical engineers; and Hopkins Food Service, food service design consultants.
