The expansion, scheduled for completion in late 2009, will be developed on a 2.5-acre site at the south site of the hotel.

Other elements planned for the project include a rooftop deck for viewing fireworks, a new swimming pool and about 300 underground parking spaces.

The expansion will be designed by Peter Dominick of 4240, architect for Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Dominick also designed Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The new project will enlarge a Disney Grand Californian Hotel & Spa that already features 745 guest rooms, including 44 suites. Upon completion of the expansion project, the hotel will feature 945 guest rooms, including 44 guest suites, along with the 50 two-bedroom time shares.

The Grand Californian is one of three hotels at Disneyland, which also features Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel and the Disneyland Hotel. The Grand Californian also includes the Napa Rose restaurant, a luxury spa, onsite shopping and other amenities.

The Disney time share organization, operating under the name Disney Vacation Club, was established 15 years ago and numbers more than 350,000 members. According to Jim Lewis, president of Disney Vacation Club, the membership has more than doubled since 2003.

The hotels and Disney theme parks are situated on approximately 500 acres here. They include Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure, the three hotels with a total of 2,224 rooms and the 310,000-sf retail, restaurant and entertainment Downtown Disney District.
