The new property is Marriott's newest prototype for the extended stay market, notes Robert Olson, CEO and president of R.D. Olson Development. He points out that the design expands upon the concept of extended-stay accommodations by incorporating quality furnishings along with new technology such as plasma televisions, wireless and hard-wired Internet access and other features.

The hotel was built by R.D. Olson Construction, a hotel and restaurant builder also founded by Robert Olson, with president Joe Kilar of the construction division heading the project. Seattle-based Johnson Braund Design Group Inc. designed the four-story 85,000-sf hotel, which includes a pool, a spa, sports courts, meeting space, an exercise room and a library lounge.

The Residence Inn is part of an Olson project list that includes the development of Residence Inns in Aliso Viejo and Burbank. The Aliso Viejo project is a $67-million Marriott Renaissance ClubSport, which is a combined 174-room full-service Marriott Renaissance Hotel brand and 70,000-sf fitness center. The Burbank property is a $37-million, five-story, 166-room Marriott Residence Inn situated in Downtown Burbank that is scheduled to open soon.
