"Historically, Whitman has been known for environmental matters, working from below the ground," says Barry Skoultchi, the firm's president. "With this acquisition, we're able to provide mechanical and electrical engineering, which is from the ground up. Using our experience in environmental work as a foundation, we will be able to advise clients through every phase of the development process."

Brownworth has a history of work in the design of schools, residential development, government facilities and corporate headquarters and office buildings. Two of its larger current projects are in the educational sector--a new $64-million high school in Phillipsburg and a $37-million performing and visual arts high school in Elizabeth.
