CHICAGO-Jupiter Communities LLC, based here, plans to increase its third party management business and plans to “brand the Jupiter way of doing business,” says Kellie DeVilbiss, the new president of Jupiter Communities. DeVilbiss, 42, had previously been a director in the capital markets group for Cushman & Wakefield Inc.

Jupiter Communities Inc., a subsidiary of Jupiter Realty Co., has a portfolio of more than 8,900 units on 23 sites. The company manages apartments owned by Jupiter and several third-party clients in Illinois, Ohio, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. Jupiter wants to increase the amount of third-party management it does, she says. DeVilbiss says she thought it would be a long-term goal but that a current client is going to have Jupiter “take over a couple more states,” she says. DeVilbiss said she could not give details on the deal yet.

The company also has a long-term goal of branding its service and believes that increasing the amount of third-party clients will help it achieve that goal. With more properties that Jupiter manages, the company can offer more specialized services such as a resident service coordinator and customer service, she says.

Jupiter Communities recently announced naming DeVilbiss president. The company's previous president had resigned in December, DeVilbiss says. Jupiter also recently hired Shridhar Shaw as the vice president of information technology and finance. DeVilbiss had previously been assistant vice president and regional director of Alliance Residential Management in Houston. DeVilbiss says she has worked with a variety of property types since starting her real estate career leasing apartments at Presidential Towers while she was in college 22 years ago, she says.
