GARNER, NC-Turkey producer Butterball has broken ground on a new $12-million, 46,000-sf corporate headquarters. The project will involve two phases of construction, which are expected to be completed in mid-2008.

Upon completion, the company will move 70 corporate and management-level employees from its current headquarters in Mt. Olive, NC. The company will continue to operate its 65,000-sf turkey-processing plant in Mt. Olive, which employs 2,600 people.

The new building will feature a high-tech customer experience center with a stainless steel kitchen designed to educate retail customers. The building's interior will feature historical accents, such as old Butterball logos and framed advertisements dating back to the brand's inception in 1954.

Butterball LLC–the new company formed in October 2006 after Carolina Turkey's $325-million acquisition of the Butterball brand from ConAgra Foods–evaluated locations throughout the country for its corporate headquarters. The new facility will accommodate the company's needs for additional space and access to an international airport.

With the new headquarters, the company will consolidate offices in a number of states into one location. Also, the headquarters is a 20-minute drive to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, versus a 1.5-hour drive from the former headquarters in Mt. Olive. “Garner is a hometown community considered to be the 'Gateway to the Triangle region,” says Butterball CEO Keith Shoemaker.
