ATLANTA-The University of Georgia Real Estate Foundation has signed a 60,000-sf lease for space at Intellicenter-Atlanta at 2530 Sever Rd. The university will use the space for its Gwinnett Campus and will relocate its graduate and continuing education programs into the space in May.

Also located at the space will be the university's Gwinnett offices of the Small Business Development Center, Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Educational Technology Training Center, part of the university's College of Education. “This new location for the University of Georgia's Gwinnett Campus was selected due to its high level of accessibility from multiple locations, its visibility, and its capacity to enable UGA's programs to expand,” says Bob Boehmer, who oversees UGA's extended campuses in Gwinnett, Griffin and Tifton.

Intellicenter-Atlanta is situated on 14 acres in the Huntcrest development, located in the southeast quadrant of Interstate 85 and Old Peachtree Road, midway between the Mall of Georgia and Gwinnett Place Mall.

The 150,000-sf Intellicenter was developed by Dallas-based Koll Development Co. under a partnership in October 2005 with Prudential Real Estate aimed at building two million sf of speculative green buildings in multiple markets across the country. Intellicenter-Atlanta was completed in 2006. With the UGA lease, the remaining 90,000 sf in the building is still vacant.

“UGA selected the property because it's well-located on Interstate 85,” says Koll Development Co. southeast division president Larry Wilson tells GlobeSt.com. “Also, having a building that is LEED-certified was appealing.”

Greg Frankum, of CB Richard Ellis, is the leasing agent for Intellicenter-Atlanta. Richard Courts, of locally based Carter Real Estate, represented the university.

The partnership has identified 20 locations for Intellicenters. Projects in Atlanta, Dallas and Houston are complete, and projects in Charlotte, NC; Tampa, FL; and Riverside, CA are currently under development.
