"This is a logical extension," said founder, chairman and CEO Steve Ells. "We're excited about entering the Toronto market."
Further international expansion, including the United Kingdom, is a long-term goal, Ells said. "We still have thousands to open in the US," Ells said. Chipotle currently operates more than 670 restaurants in the US.
Revenues for the quarter were $286.4 million, up 35.6% from the same period last year. Comparable restaurant sales increased 12.4%. Net income was $20.6 million, a 74.6% increase from the prior year.
