Playa Takes Occidental Grand Flamenco

PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC-A 582-room resort here has been acquired by Playa Hotels & Resorts. The Occidental Grand Flamenco Puerto Plata Resort on the beach of Playa Dorada was purchased for approximately $100 million by the Spanish private equity group, which will re-brand the property as the Barcelo Puerto Plata Hotel. It will be managed by Barcelo Hotels and Resorts, among the world’s top 28 largest hospitality and travel firms.

The asset is the 12th resort obtained by Playa Hotels in the Dominican Republic and Mexico since its creation in 2006. Features include an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, conference facilities, numerous lounges and seven full-service restaurants, as well as a Kids Club. The resort is situated on the “Amber Coast,” a 15-minute drive from the local airport and 10 minutes from Puerto Plata.
