The shopping center was developed and is owned by Oak Brook Promenade LLC. The corporation is a group of 14 investors, including The Travelers Cos., says a spokeswoman for NAI Hiffman, which is the leasing and management firm for the center.
Sweet & Sassy is geared toward girls and offers spa and salon services in addition to hosting parties with a fashion runway. Sweet & Sassy, headquartered in Southlake, TX, is expected to open in February and will be part of an expansion in the Chicago area, according to a released statement from NAI Hiffman on the lease. Other retailers include Jos A. Bank Clothiers, Pendleton, Kona Grill, McCormick's & Schmick's Seafood, Omaha Steaks, Go Roma, Robbins Bros, Shop 10, Swoozie's, My Sister Kate, Girlfriends Closet Boutique, Heels and Wet Nose. Arhaus, which sells handcrafted home furnishings, opened its first location in the state at Oak Brook Promenade. The center also has about 20,000 sf of office space on the second level, says Claire Bitautas, leasing agent for the center. The asking lease rate ranges from $26 per sf net for the office space to the "$40 range per sf" for retail on the first level, Bitautas says.
There had been an office building on the site owned by The Traveler's Cos., formerly St. Paul Traveler's. The office building was the former corporate headquarters of Waste Management. Traveler's "was going to be taking a hit if it went vacant," says the spokeswoman for NAI Hiffman. Ryan Murphy, head of the NAI Hiffman retail services group, had the idea to turn the property into a European lifestyle center designed in an "Old World village" style. The location is in Oak Brook and near Hinsdale, IL and Elmhurst, IL which all have "pretty high end demographics," she says. "The people who are choosing to go in Oak Brook Promenade like the midpoint location on the Butterfield retail corridor," the spokeswoman says. The shopping center is between Oak Brook Center and Yorktown Center, two major retail malls. "That whole strip is really becoming a destination corridor for people who are really looking to do some serious shopping," she says.
