MCDONOUGH, GA-Medical and consumer products company Kimberly-Clark has expanded its space at the SouthPort Logistics Center at 340 Westridge Parkway by 339,300 sf. The expansion follows the 1.3-million-sf lease the company signed last year at SouthPort, which is being developed by Atlanta-based Oakmont Industrial Group.

With the expansion, the company will occupy a total of 1.638 million sf. The company will take occupancy of the space in the second quarter 2008, when the building is completed.

Greg Haynes and Todd Barton, of CB Richard Ellis, represented Oakmont. Kimberly-Clark was represented by Matthew Stauber, of Colliers Bennett & Kahnweiler, along with Ben Logue and Price Weaver, of Colliers Spectrum Cauble. "This lease extension and expansion validates Oakmont's initial strategy with respect to design, function and scale," Haynes says.

SouthPort is located about 30 miles south of Atlanta in the Henry County/Interstate 75 submarket. The building provides immediate access to Interstate 75 via Georgia Highway 20 and serves companies distributing products in Georgia and Florida. It also provides for the flow of goods through the southeastern seaports of Savannah; Charleston, SC and Jacksonville, FL. General contractors on the project are the Atlanta-based Conlan Co. and the architects are Randall-Paulson Architects. Bank of America is providing the construction financing.

SouthPort features 36-foot clear height ceilings, 650-foot depth cross-dock configuration, upgraded seven-inch floor slab, 48-foot by 54-foot column spacing, 200-foot to 380-foot full concrete truck courts with trailer storage capacity up to 736 spaces and on-site queuing for up to 61 tractor trailers. "We designed SouthPort on a speculative basis with features that would satisfy the needs of most corporate users," says Oakmont Industrial Group president Richard Rider.
