"We expect to add capacity at this pace over the next four years," Kane Dawson, SVP of operations, tells GlobeSt.com. "The full plan also calls for construction of a new guest tower that will add 100 guest rooms and resource areas for patients and families. It is projected to cost $20 million." Dawson says the campus, which is located at 1331 E. Wyoming Ave. in Northeast Philadelphia, can accommodate the additional building.
During the 2008 opening phase the outpatient area will be expanded by 3,200 sf to add new exam rooms and treatment space along with an in-house PET/CT facility. Sixteen inpatient beds will be added taking the total to 38. In addition, 40 new guest rooms for patients and families, along with amenity and resource areas for them and caregivers will be constructed in the now-vacant fourth and fifth floors of the hospital.
According to a GlobeSt.com report when CTCA acquired the property, it invested $44 million in renovations and conversion of the 200-bed, 273,800-sf hospital into a specialty facility. In the past two years, the staff has grown from 154 to 423, and the 2008 expansion will add 250 jobs. It opened this location, "because our patients requested that we bring our unique model of care to the Northeast region of the US," says John McNeil, president and CEO, in a statement. Approximately 85% of the patients here come from outside Philadelphia.
Schaumberg, IL-based CTCA operates a network of cancer treatment hospitals and oncology programs. They include hospitals in suburban Chicago and Tulsa, OK in addition to the one here, plus an outpatient clinic in Seattle. It is currently building a hospital outside Phoenix. The company provides comprehensive cancer care combining conventional treatments with scientifically supported complementary therapies, such as nutrition, naturopathic medicine and psychological and spiritual support.
