Located at 914 Baltimore Pike just east of Chadds Ford in the city's western suburbs, Styer's 10-acre nursery is one of the oldest garden centers in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. "We are delighted to welcome Styer's into the URBN [Urban Outfitters] family," Richard Hayne, chairman and founder of Urban Outfitters, says. "We look forward to growing Styer's existing business and integrating it into our Terrain brand." The land behind Styer's is being developed into a retail center and a retirement complex with an expected completion in 2009, according to its Web site.

Urban Outfitters has revealed little about its latest concept, although it previously disclosed in earlier earnings calls that it would be launching a garden store and related home goods brand this year as well as open its first Anthropologie store in Europe in 2010. Urban Outfitters has opened 35 new stores this fiscal year, which ends Feb. 7. These include 16 Urban Outfitters, 12 Anthropologies and seven Free People locations. It also registered respectable holiday sales this past season, with its three chains posting a 9% year-over-year gain during the months of November and December. The 122-store Urban Outfitters chain, its largest brand, reported a 4% comparable-sales increase. Management will report full year-end results when its fiscal year ends next month.
