Retailer Launches Urban Outfitters Brand

PHILADELPIA-Urban Outfitters, which houses the Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters retail lines, will be acquiring J. Franklin Styer Nurseries, a locally based garden store retailer to launch its fourth brand, Terrain. The price and other details were not disclosed. The agreement is subject to due diligence conditions.

Located at 914 Baltimore Pike just east of Chadds Ford in the city’s western suburbs, Styer’s 10-acre nursery is one of the oldest garden centers in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. “We are delighted to welcome Styer’s into the URBN [Urban Outfitters] family,” Richard Hayne, chairman and founder of Urban Outfitters, says. “We look forward to growing Styer’s existing business and integrating it into our Terrain brand.” The land behind Styer’s is being developed into a retail center and a retirement complex with an expected completion in 2009, according to its Web site.
