NEW YORK CITY-Locally based Cushman & Wakefield has acquired its long-time Australian affiliate, Laing+Simmons Commercial Inc., a New South Wales, Australia-based real estate services firm which has operated in Sydney for the past 19 years. With immediate effect the firm will begin operations as Cushman & Wakefield.
Consistent with the continued expansion of Cushman & Wakefield’s operations across Asia Pacific, C&W explains that the acquisition reflects the firm’s commitment to the region and the Australian marketplace in particular. “This represents a significant step for both firms and our clients,” says Michael Thompson, CEO of Cushman & Wakefield’s Asia Pacific operations in a prepared statement. “Given our highly successful association with Robert Farrell and Tony Anderson over the last decade this acquisition was a natural step for us, made all the easier by their outstanding reputation and strong client relationships.”
Thompson adds that “Australia is an important global market for Cushman & Wakefield and this strategic acquisition provides us with a strong platform from which we can expand beyond Sydney, both organically and through acquisition. Both C&W and the Laing+Simmons Commercial team have strong cultures, which will make the transition easier because we share the same traditions of integrity and excellence and a ‘client-first’ philosophy–all of which make a powerful combination.”
