Liberty Harbor is situated on the Brunswick River, 4.6 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. When completed, the marina will be the largest between Charleston, SC and Miami. The Liberty Harbor Yacht Club will overlook the marina and will offer water sports, entertainment and dining.

Waxman says a separate project cost for the marina has not yet been determined. Whether slips will be sold or leased has also not yet been determined. The first slips are expected to be ready later in 2008. "We'll probably construct the marina in phases," he says.

Waxman worked with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the US Coast Guard to create an environmentally sensitive marina. The development team also funded a study by Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology Bioacoustics Research Program to help locate and better protect the endangered right whales that use the waters off Brunswick as calving areas. The Liberty Harbor and Yacht Club will provide education and training programs for clients that focus on safe boating practices that stress awareness and protection of endangered marine life.

[IMGCAP(2)] Liberty Harbor is a 155-acre development that will include approximately 1,600 residences and 250 single-family homes. The superstructure for the residential portion of the project, including roads, gutters and sewers, is nearly complete. Work on some of the single-family homes will begin in the next month or two with work on the condominiums expected to begin in the summer, Waxman says.
