WHICH CANDIDATE WOULD BE BEST FOR NEW JERSEY IF ELECTED PRESIDENT?
The 2008 presidential race is heating up, and as the pool of candidates gets smaller and election day nears, many people are beginning to examine closely the issues and ask: "Who's best for me?" The best candidate for you is likely to be the best candidate for the state in which you work and live, and our poll respondents have weighed in on who they think would best serve New Jersey's interests once installed in the White House. An overwhelming majority (59%) support John McCain. Trailing far behind is Barack Obama, with 29% of the vote. Hillary Clinton only managed a 12% approval rating. Stacey Meisel, a founding member of Becker Meisel in Livingston, tells us why she supports Barack Obama:
"Senator Barack Obama is the best candidate for New Jersey.
"New Jersey is somewhat of a microcosm of the entire country. We have all sorts of industries here that you find throughout the country, such as agriculture, travel, ports and chemicals. Because of our diverse economy and the attractiveness we have as a terrorist target, it's very important for us to obtain international stability. What happens in the international community affects us in a major way.
"Even though we're a small state, we have all the issues of a very large state. One of our major issues is with the healthcare industry. We've had several hospitals file for bankruptcy in the past few years, and they're filing because they're burdened by the charity care system and their inability to be reimbursed for their services. I think Senator Obama brings the opportunity for every American to obtain universal healthcare. We in New Jersey need something like that.
"I have confidence that the senator is someone who can bring about real change, and he's someone who can get things done and help us improve our position in the world. I see him as a steward for the future instead of the past. On top of all that, he's smart, he possesses magnetism, he's very compelling and he shows that he cares about the everyday person. These are excellent qualities."
